Upper Ross connected through Community Day

Date published: 5 November 2026

It’s all about community connection this weekend in the Upper Ross, as Council brings individuals, local support services, volunteer organisations and community groups together for a free day out ahead of the high-risk weather season.

Divisional Councillor, Kristian Price said the Upper Ross Community Connection Day this Saturday was about fostering what locals do best – rallying together in the face of adversity.

“We know North Queenslanders are tough and the hard times unite people, but this event is about bringing everyone together before disaster strikes,” Cr Price said.

“You shouldn’t be meeting your neighbours or finding out about some of these great organisations for the first time during a severe weather event.

“Strong social networks are a key to disaster preparedness, resilience and importantly the recovery of our community.”

While the day is set to bring hundreds of people together, Councillor Price said it was also an opportunity to find out more about how people could get involved in the community through volunteering.

“Not only will those attending be able to connect with representatives from the Townsville Hospital and Health Service Disaster Recovery Team and Townsville City Council's Emergency Management and Community Recovery & Resilience teams, but you can find out how to lend a hand in our own backyard,” Cr Price said.

“Groups like the Australian Red Cross, Community Gro, Volunteering North Queensland and the Upper Ross Men's Shed will be set up ready to chat, and there will even be a sausage sizzle, kids activities and a screening of Floodland.

“I’d encourage as many people as possible to head up to the beautiful Upper Ross and get involved in our amazing community.”

Floodland is a documentary that follows the people of Lismore, New South Wales, as they rebuild their lives after the devastating 2022 floods, exploring the personal, social and political challenges of recovering from one of Australia's worst natural disasters.

The Upper Ross Community Connection Day will be held at the Upper Ross PCYC this Saturday from 10:30am – 2:30pm, for more information, visit Upper Ross Community Connection Day | What's On Townsville.
