Come Shape Townsville: Careers that keep our city running
Date published: 21 October 2026
From collecting bins and maintaining parks to testing water, running theatres and delivering major infrastructure projects, Townsville City Council is inviting residents to explore the diverse careers that help make our city what it is.
Council will host two Work @ Council information sessions on Saturday 24 October 2026, giving jobseekers the opportunity to discover the wide range of career opportunities available across one of Townsville's largest employers.
With major projects underway across the city and essential services continuing every day, Council is seeking people with a broad range of skills and experience. As Townsville approaches the high-risk weather season, maintaining a capable and diverse workforce remains particularly important.
Mayor Nick Dametto said the sessions were about showing residents just how many different careers were available at Council.
"Most of us see Council crews out and about every day, collecting bins, maintaining parks, fixing roads and keeping our public spaces looking great,” Cr Dametto said.
“But Council also employs engineers, scientists, project managers, customer service staff, and many other professionals working behind the scenes.
“That's what makes Council such a rewarding place to work. There are so many different ways to contribute to our community.
“Many people would be surprised by the breadth of career opportunities available. I encourage residents at any stage of their working life to consider what a career at Council could offer.
"Whether you're leaving school, looking for a career change or returning to the workforce, these sessions are a great opportunity to come along, ask questions and explore the career options available.”
The Work @ Council information sessions will provide practical information about current vacancies, recruitment processes, pay and conditions, rosters, qualifications and licences, training and career development opportunities. Attendees will also learn about Council's commitment to workplace safety and creating a positive working environment.
