Saddle up, Townsville: Calamity Jane rides into the Civic Theatre

The Wild West is rolling into Townsville next month, with a bold new production of Calamity Jane set to delight audiences at the Townsville Civic Theatre.
Presented by Townsville Civic Theatre and Queensland Theatre Company, the beloved musical classic will take to the stage for two performances on October 9 and 10, transforming the theatre into the rough-and-tumble town of Deadwood.
This fresh reimagining stars award-winning Australian cabaret and theatre performer Naomi Price as the fearless and unpredictable Calamity Jane, bringing new energy to one of musical theatre’s most iconic characters.
Division 9 Councillor Liam Mooney said the production was another example of the high-quality arts experiences available to the community through the 2026 Townsville Civic Theatre Season.
“Townsville audiences continue to show a real appetite for world-class theatre, and Calamity Jane is sure to be one of the standout productions of the season,” Cr Mooney said.
“This is the kind of show that brings people together – whether you’re a lifelong theatre lover or experiencing live performance for the first time, there’s something special about sharing an evening of music, laughter and storytelling with others.
“Our Civic Theatre attracts outstanding productions from across the country and gives locals the chance to experience them right here in Townsville, which is something Council is very proud of.”
Calamity Jane audiences can expect an immersive theatre experience, with on-stage saloon tables placing patrons right in the heart of the action alongside Calamity’s piano-fuelled posse.
Packed with humour, heart and unforgettable songs including “Secret Love” and “The Black Hills of Dakota”, the production offers a contemporary twist on a timeless favourite while retaining all the charm that has made it a musical theatre classic.
With two performances only, theatre-goers are encouraged to secure their seats early and be part of the excitement.
Calamity Jane will be performed at the Townsville Civic Theatre on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October 2026, with both shows starting at 7:30pm.
