Citylibraries Riverway

Following extensive consultation with the community on the sorts of activity, services and functions they wanted to see in their local library, Townsville City Council has constructed a new fit-for-purpose community-designed space at Riverway. This space replaces the Citylibraries Thuringowa service, previously located on Thuringowa Drive.

The new Citylibraries Riverway takes a contemporary, innovative approach to library services with books and so much more for the community to access:

  • digital creative studios for podcasting and audio/video recording
  • a fabrication lab for 3D printing, 3D scanning and sewing
  • 24/7 library reservation pick-up lockers
  • RFID smart-return shelves
  • 24-hour meeting and study rooms.

Transitioning the library service from its previous location in Thuringowa into the new Riverway space was the perfect opportunity to rethink the location of the library as part of Council’s broader property management strategy. The new Citylibraries Riverway provides a long-term home for the service and delivers a financially sustainable outcome for the decades ahead.
