Donate now to Mayor’s Christmas Appeal

With Christmas just a few days away, now is the time to consider giving much-needed donations to this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

This year’s appeal is helping make Christmas brighter for those in need across Townsville by gifting them Christmas vouchers to use at select grocery stores.

Acting Mayor Mark Molachino said Christmas was a great time of year for individuals and families to consider giving to charity.

“Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, but for many people in our community, it’s a time of need. That’s why the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal has worked for years to alleviate stress on locals who need a helping hand during the festive season,” Cr Molachino said.

“This year’s appeal will touch a large number of people in our community, which is why I’m encouraging locals to get behind the appeal and donate during the week of Christmas.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s $100 or $1, every little bit counts towards making Christmas that bit more magical for locals doing it tough this year.”

Frank Parmegiani is the general manager of Solex, a Townsville-based computer and electronics company.

Mr Parmegiani said his team was keen to give back to the Townsville community through this year’s appeal.

“The opportunity came up for us to donate to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal and we jumped at it,” he said.

“It’s just a matter of giving back, it’s a bit of a circle. As a city, we look for support from Council, and Council can’t always do it by themselves. It’s not always just a matter of money and people, it’s a matter of support.”

The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal has so far raised more than $40,000.
