Townsville City Council is encouraging residents in low-lying areas to take precautions ahead of king tides expected from Sunday.

The king tide is forecast to reach 3.75m at 7am on Sunday, followed by further peaks of 3.77m at 7:30am on Monday and 3.72m at 7:59am on Tuesday.

Council recommends residents in areas that are prone to minor flooding during king tides take necessary precautions.

Suburbs like South Townsville and Railway Estate may be impacted, along with Hanran Street and Ogden Street in the city.

Motorists are asked to observe any warnings and road closures.
