Controlled local level blast planned for West End quarry site

Date published: 21 December 2015

Residents in West End are advised that a controlled low level blast will take place in the old quarry tomorrow (Tuesday, December 22) as part of site works for a new reservoir.

The blast is required to remove unstable rock from the quarry cliff face and will be performed by specialist contractors.

Personnel will be located at each walking track leading to the construction site to control access.

Signage will also be placed in the area on Castle Hill advising of the low impact blast. Notices have also been sent to residents living in nearby areas as part of the precautionary arrangements.

A warning siren will be sounded a minute before the blast, and again four minutes after the event to advise of the all clear.

The reservoir project is part of the council’s broader CBD Utilities Upgrade that will improve water and waste infrastructure in inner-city.

Requests for more information on next week’s blast can be directed to the council’s Customer Service Centre on 1300 878 001.
