Community invited to celebrate Riverway's birthday

Date published: 8 August 2016

The community is invited to come and celebrate the 10th birthday of one of the city’s most loved facilities.

Riverway is turning 10 and council will host a weekend of fun for all ages on August 13-14 to celebrate.

Activities will include crafts, circus performances and aerial trapeze displays from La Luna Youth Arts, markets, water ski shows, live music, entertainment, food, rides and face painting.

There will also be A Series cricket matches being held at Tony Ireland Stadium over the two days.

Divisional councillor Verena Coombe said since opening in 2006 Riverway had become one of the city’s most enduring and important community facilities.

“Riverway has become a recreational and cultural hub over the years, hosting a massive array of events such as sporting events, cultural festivals, markets, movies, fashion shows and so much more,” Cr Coombe said.

“It’s also a great place to relax, come for a swim and a family barbecue and is enjoyed by locals for exercise every day.

“Riverway also boasts the Riverway Performing Arts Centre which hosts a packed program of local and guest performances throughout the year and of course Pinnacles Gallery which proudly displays a very high calibre of exhibitions annually.

“Riverway has become a valuable community asset that residents are proud to show off to out-of-town visitors.”

The celebrations will kick off on Saturday, August 13 at 1pm until 8pm and again on Sunday, August 14 from 10am to 3pm.
