Gala dinner pale ale to celebrate city's past

The Port of Townsville Gala Dinner Under the Stars is fast approaching with council releasing a limited number of additional seats to keep up with demand.
So far nearly 700 tickets have been sold for the spectacular evening to be held at Strand Park on September 10 as part of the city’s T150 celebrations.
To mark the special occasion The Townsville Brewery will brew a unique T150 Beer – 1866 Pale Ale - to celebrate the year that Townsville was declared a municipality.
Acting Mayor Les Walker said guests on the evening would be able to taste the beer, along with an assortment of specially chosen wines and several other beers. Spirits will be available to purchase.
“This will be a very memorable event made even more special by the addition of a unique brewed beer to mark the occasion,” Cr Walker said.
“Guests will be treated to fine wines, this new beer as well as the best food from some of Townsville’s top restaurants.”
Participating restaurants will include Essentially Fresh, Michel’s Restaurant, A Touch of Salt, Chef on Call Catering, Seasoned and Jam Corner.
Townsville Brewery Company head brewer Brendan Flanagan said they were delighted to be part of this great celebration of Townsville’s past.
“There is a rich history of brewing in Townsville and when developing the recipe for the 1866 Pale Ale we researched the type of beers that were being brewed in Australia at the time,” he said.
“It was clear the beer styles were heavily influenced by pale ales imported from the UK.
“We also understand the hops used in brewing at the time were a mix of Australian and imported hops.
“Our 1866 Pale Ale combines Australian Pale, Crystal and Caramalts with Australian and imported hops added for flavour and aroma.
“Guests at this amazing gala dinner will be the first to sample the 1866 Pale Ale.”
Entertainment will include Australian music legend Daryl Braithwaite, Sydney cover band Jellybean Jam and local group Serenata String Quartet.
The Port of Townsville Gala Dinner Under the Stars will be held on September 10. This is an 18+ event. Tickets for the event are $200 each.
