Townsville City Council is giving local singers an opportunity to be a part of one of the biggest shows of the year.

Applications for this year’s Carols By Candlelight are now open and council is hoping that singers from all genres and backgrounds come forward.

Successful applicants will perform either a solo or as part of an ensemble accompanied by the 1RAR Band and 70-member choir at the event on December 4.

This is the second time council has invited the public to participate and it’s hoped that this year an even larger number of performers apply.

Council is hoping this year’s event attracts an even larger number.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said performing at Carols By Candlelight was a huge opportunity with an audience of about 12,000 residents each year.

“We’re calling on singers who have some performance experience, who won’t be afraid to get in front of such a large audience,” Cr Doyle said.

“It’s a great opportunity and I encourage local singers from musical theatre, local bands, soloists and singers of all genres to apply.”

Singers need to go through an application process and need to be over the age of 18.

Applications close on Monday, September 12 at 10am.

Solo performers and ensembles (groups, trios, duos etc) are invited to apply.

Successful applicants will be notified by email on Friday, September 16.

Auditions will be held, by appointment, on Sunday, September 25.
