More than 12,000 people are expected to flock to the big top at Reid Park this Sunday, December 4 for the annual Carols By Candlelight celebration.

This year TV personalities and musicians Wilbur Wilde and Frankie J Holden will join the ever-popular 1RAR Band, the Townsville Choral Society Choir plus local vocalists for a festive evening of song and dance.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the program was packed with talent this year, with lots of local singers getting the opportunity to perform.

“We held auditions for local singers earlier in the year and are pleased to have a fantastic line-up of local talent on stage including Trent Bell and Sarah Murr,” Cr Hill said.

“Wilbur Wilde and Frankie J Holden will add their brand of humour and fun to the evening and of course there will be a special visit by the man in the red suit.”

This year’s local performers are:

  • Sarah Murr
  • Claire Davies and The Decatones
  • Sandra Neal
  • Kieri Darrigan
  • Suzanne Dunlop
  • Amelia Doolan
  • Melissa Brown
  • Mell Boyce
  • Jacob Long
  • Darryl Griffiths
  • Rachel Cairns
  • Jen Cooke

As in previous years, there will be food and drinks for purchase.

Safe flame candles for $3 and real 6ft Christmas trees for $80 will be for sale, with proceeds donated to the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal. Only 30 trees will be on offer.
Tickets in the raffle will also be for sale with more than $10,000 in prizes on offer, for $2 per ticket.

“We invite everyone to bring their chairs and picnic blankets and join us for this family-friendly event to kick off the festive season,” Cr Hill said.
