Townsville City Council has given the green light to plans to expand the popular Sanctum development in the city’s north.

An application for Preliminary Approval for Development by Maidment Land Pty Ltd was supported by full council yesterday for the delivery of residential allotments as well as local convenience centres, a school and open space parkland.

To be staged over the next 20 years, Sanctum West will extend over almost 560 hectares on Brabon Road, bound by Black River and the existing Sanctum development.

Planning and Development Committee chairman Cr Les Walker said the proposal would provide home buyers with more choice in the area that is particularly popular with first home buyers and families.
“Sanctum West offers a natural extension to Sanctum and residential development at the Northern Beaches,” Cr Walker said.

“The development will offer important element of choice with a mix of small to large lot sizes and proximity to infrastructure and services.

“Ample greenspace has also been indicated for inclusion including formal local parks and open space corridors that will benefit the community.”

The current Sanctum site, accessible off Bonnett Road, Mount Low has preliminary approval for 1300 lots ranging from 450sqm to 1200sqm with an expected completion date of 2023.
