Free workshops offer jobseekers a new path

Date published: 8 June 2016

CityLibraries Townsville is offering a free program to assist residents looking for work.

The Path to Employment program will offer a series of workshops running over a two-week period beginning June 16.

This is the second Path to Employment program to be delivered this year and will cover practical aspects of job hunting including resume writing, addressing selection criteria and interview techniques.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the path to employment could be a long and difficult one without assistance.

“This program aims to provide job seekers with the important information needed to gain employment as well as building resilience during unemployment,” Cr Doyle said.

“This is a chance for residents to consider training or study to upskill or reskill and an opportunity to use volunteering as a path to employment.”

The sessions will also look at physical and mental health issues.

New this time around is the opening session on job building skills where participants will be able to complete a self-assessment to identify their career options and aspirations.

The program has the support of the Mental Illness Fellowship NQ, Northern Australia Primary Health, Experience Works, TAFE NQ, Volunteering NQ, Careers Australia, Community Connection Inc and Community Training Australia.
