Wild dog reported at North Shore

Date published: 17 June 2016

Townsville City Council is investigating a report this morning of a wild dog pursuing walkers at North Shore in Burdell.

Environmental Management coordinator Andrew Hannay said a trapper would be onsite this afternoon to catch the animal and any other wild dogs in the vicinity.

“Council takes the issue of wild dogs very seriously and we advise the public to report sightings straight away,” Mr Hannay said.

“We urge residents to avoid the bushland area around North Shore and for the time being, keep all pets in your yard.”

Mr Hannay said residents should not approach any wild dogs and to walk away slowly, facing the animal, if encountered.

Council is erecting warning signs in the area this afternoon.

Townsville City Council has an ongoing trapping program to control wild dog numbers in the Townsville region.
