'Experts in love' to bring yesteryear songs to Townsville stage
Date published: 4 October 2016
Brassy banter is expected to raise the roof of the Townsville Civic Theatre next week as audiences will laugh out loud at the delight of duo Melissa Western and Tnee Dyer at Townsville City Council’s next Morning Melodies.
The Sweet, Sour and Saucy show will boast some outrageously ocker performances as Western and Dyer take on their 1950s inspired radio talkback jazz cabaret personas of Barbara and Barry.
Filled with the musical delights of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Eartha Kitt, Sweet, Sour and Saucy will charm lovers and lonely hearts with their knockout vocals, virtuosic piano playing, witty repartee… and something they call ‘erotic spoons’.
Western and Dyer are well known in the Queensland musical theatre scene with critically acclaimed performances at Brisbane Festival, Queensland Music Festival, plus regular appearances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe during their decade long collaboration.
A sell-out Brisbane season at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts will have Townsville audiences keen to get a dose of dodgy relationship advice from the pair.
Their polished performance is extremely popular with audiences and is expected to continue when they take the stage in Townsville.
Sweet, Sour and Saucy will be performed at the Townsville Civic Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 11 and 12 at 11am.
Tickets are $14 each and $12 for groups of 10 or more.
