Circus Oz performers join locals in fun-filled workshops

Townsville’s circus enthusiasts are invited to work with professional performers in a series of workshops starting Monday thanks to Townsville City Council.

The free workshops, led by professional Circus Oz performers, are being held in the lead up to two Circus Oz shows – Model Citizens - at the Civic Theatre later this month, April 20 and 21.

The sessions will be held at Townsville’s Cajam Circus in Oonoonba Rd, Idalia and will be customised for all ages and all skill levels, from beginners to performers.

The one-hour long workshops are a chance to learn juggling, hula hoops and manipulation, tumbling and acro-balance, developing coordination, strength and confidence in a fun, safe environment.

Facilitator Cath Loveday invited the public to join in the fun.

“This is a series of free workshops that will develop your circus skills and it will be tonnes of fun,” Ms Loveday said.

“We’ve very excited to have Circus Oz members join us for these workshops, to share their experience and tips and to help us to spread the joy that this type of performing can bring to both the participants and the audience.”

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said council was excited to be able to facilitate this kind of experience for the community.

“It’s important for council to offer a range of programs that help residents of all ages to be active and get involved in the community.”

Numbers are limited, so booking early is encouraged.

Sessions are:

  • Monday, 3 April at 4pm and 7pm (adult classes)
  • Tuesday, 4 April at 10am 1pm and 4pm
  • Wednesday, 5 April at 10am
