Townsville City Council will start holding open days at the Animal Shelter to help families find their new fur-ever friend this weekend.

Residents have the oppurrtunity to pick up a new family member this weekend with the costs of adopting a pet reduced to half price.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said Council wants all animals at the shelter to find their new fur-ever home.

“Council is holding these open days to give the community a chance to fetch one of the beautiful pets we have available for adoption,” Cr Greaney said.

“We encourage residents to be responsible pet owners and that is why all animals adopted from our Animal Shelter will be microchipped, desexed and vaccinated.

“We do want to remind the community that adopting a pet is a long-term decision and anyone wanting to take home any of the animals need to make sure their property is pet-friendly.”

Residents can also keep an eye out for details on future open days in the coming months.

When: 9:30am to 2pm, Saturday 6 April & Sunday 7 April

Where: Townsville City Council Animal Shelter (69 Tompkins Road, Shaw)
