Townsville City Council’s Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal (MCTA) has raised more than $135,000 for locals in need this Christmas.

Acting Mayor Les Walker said it was an incredible effort from the community.

“The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal raises much-needed funds for less fortunate people in Townsville who are doing it tough,” Cr Walker said.

“Christmas is a magical time of year for most, but some people need a little extra help to make the holiday season just as festive.

“Our community has done a wonderful job raising more than $135,000 for this year’s appeal through MCTA events and community fundraising.

“Having so many locals throw their support behind these events and enjoy some of the best entertainment in town has been great to see.”

More than 1,100 hampers were packed and delivered to 18 organisations by 36 local volunteers.
