Townsville City Council is urging residents to have their say on the future of Mount Louisa.

The public consultation period for the Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan closes tomorrow.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan is a key project in Townsville’s 2020 vision.

“This is a real opportunity for local residents and potential users to shape the future of Mount Louisa,” Cr Hill said.

“When this round of consultation concludes we will examine the responses and make changes.

“I’ve made a commitment to provide upgraded facilities and world-class experiences in the city and the suburbs – this is a major part of our Townsville 2020 vision.”

The Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan aims to transform the area into an activity and recreation hub. The first stage includes a viewing platform, walking tracks and a carpark.

Cr Hill said more than 200 people have already submitted feedback.

“People have really engaged with us, the level of interest has been great and their ideas will help Council develop the plans for the project,” Cr Hill said.

“This feedback is vital and we want to make sure people know that their views are being heard.

“Council staff have had a number of onsite discussions and we are working with residents to get the best outcome for the community.

“I’d encourage anyone who’s keen to use Mount Louisa to get in touch with Council.”
