TLDMG moves to alert

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has moved from ‘lean forward’ to ‘alert’ as the region continues its recovery efforts from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily.

TLDMG Chair Jenny Hill said attention will now focus to restoring services, evaluating the response and recovering.

“Thank you to our emergency services, disaster management teams and service providers for their assistance before, during and after the event,” Cr Hill said.

“Our region was very fortunate to escape relatively unharmed from Ex-TC Kirrily and that’s partly down to the work done by our Emergency Management personnel.

“The training and preparation we do in the lead up to disaster season helps to make sure we can deal with an event like a cyclone as best as possible.

“Clean up will continue across the city and I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as the work continues.

“Over the next few weeks, we will also look at some of the things that went well and some of the things that could have been done better.

“I encourage everyone in the community to do the same and think about what they could have done to make their homes, families and themselves more disaster resilient.”
