Date published: 21 August 2017

Townsville children with a love for stories will get a unique opportunity to meet an author as part of Townsville City Council’s Book Week celebrations this week.

Burdekin author Tania Cox will read her 2003 Children’s Book Council Australia shortlisted book Snap! Went Chester, as well as other 2017 shortlisted titles.

The visit will happen at CityLibraries Aitkenvale on Friday, August 25 from 10am to 11am as part of this year’s Book Week celebrations.

The theme of this year’s week is Escape To Everywhere.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said Book Week was about celebrating books, authors and illustrators.

“Books are a great way for children and adults to escape to wonderful imaginary worlds full of adventures and wonder,” Cr Doyle said.

“CityLibraries is a big supporter of the annual week running a number of activities each year to encourage people of all ages to read more.

“We’re very excited about Tania Cox’s visit and hope lots of children and their families will come.”

Other Book Week activities include a library trail for children to follow at Aitkenvale and Thuringowa Libraries with activities and puzzles to solve, opportunities to write and draw and much more.
