Townsville Origin bid now has all-round support

Mayor Cr Jenny Hill has welcomed the LNP’s support for the city’s bid to secure a State of Origin match at the new stadium in 2020.

“This is great news for our campaign to secure the north’s first State of Origin clash and now means we have bipartisan support,” Cr Hill said.

“The council, TEL and the NQ Cowboys joined together to write to the NRL last month on behalf of the city to push our case to stage Origin match when the new stadium opens in 2020.

“I would like to thank the state opposition leader for confirming the LNP’s backing.

“Having the Maroons and the Blues going head to head here in our new stadium would be fantastic for the game and one of the greatest sporting events to ever come here.”
