Townsville City Council is gearing up for a week of celebrations to recognise the city’s senior residents.

The Seniors Lifestyle Expo on Tuesday, August 22 will feature more than 100 exhibitors with information, activities and giveaways specifically tailored to our seniors at Townsville Stadium.

Exhibitors include healthcare and service providers, community groups, fitness opportunities and recreational and entertainment options.

The expo will start the week of festivities which will include the annual free Seniors Luncheon on August 24 and 25 from 10.30am-1.30pm for residents over the age of 60.

The theme of this year’s luncheon is tropical, with guests encouraged to come in their most colourful and tropical attire.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the expo and luncheon were fun and educational opportunities for the seniors in our community.

“Once again council is pleased to facilitate these events that recognise the role that seniors play in our community,” Cr Doyle said.

“Seniors have so much experience, knowledge and skills to share with younger generations and it’s important to acknowledge their input.”

The expo is free to attend and will be held at the Townsville Stadium in Murray on August 22 from 10am-1pm.

Registrations for the luncheon are essential and are open until Friday, August 4 by phoning 4727 9797 or visiting the Ticketshop.

A free bus will run from Stockland to the stadium at 9am, 10am and 11am.
