Council Committee rejects supporting Bluewater land sale

Townsville City Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee voted against supporting the proposed sale of State-owned land at Bluewater.

The land at Endeavour Rd is currently used by the Bluewater Equestrian Centre to host events – and is a popular local facility.

The Queensland Government had received an offer to purchase the land from an adjacent landholder and Council was required to collect the community’s feedback on the proposal.

Mayor Jenny Hill said Council had listened to the community’s views and would not be supporting the proposed sale.

“This is a much-loved facility for everyone in the equestrian community and we have decided that Council will not support the potential sale of this State-owned land,” Cr Hill said.

Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said Council had collected feedback from the community and ensured their views on the issue were heard.

“It’s clear the community does not support the sale of the land at Bluewater and the committee took that into consideration when it voted against supporting any sale of the land,” Cr Molachino said.

The matter will go before the next full Council meeting on April 24, for endorsement.
