Corcoran Park Grand Opening!
Date published: 24 August 2018
Townsville residents are invited to celebrate the newly upgraded Corcoran Park at Hermit Park with a free Family Fun Day on Saturday, 25 August.
Corcoran Park will officially re-open tomorrow from 9am with local residents, Mayor Jenny Hill, Councillor Colleen Doyle and Member for Townsville Scott Stewart.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the new parkland is a great asset for residents living in the area and that a further $41 million will be invested this financial year on parks and open spaces across our great city.
“Townsville kids will be able to jump, climb and take advantage of the new state of the art playground,” Cr Hill said.
“Shovel ready projects such as this help to improve our community spaces and provide local residents a more enjoyable and kid-friendly atmosphere within their area.”
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said providing improved park facilities is a paramount objective for our community.
“Corcoran Park is very sentimental to me, it was the park that I grew up playing on and seeing the upgrade complete makes me happy that other families can create their own memories just like I was able to,” Cr Doyle said.
Corcoran Park was a jointly funded project by the State Government and Townsville City Council. Stage 2 was assisted by the Queensland Government Works for Queensland program.
Residents will be treated to a free sausage sizzle, children’s entertainment and an opportunity to experience the new facilities.
