Council simpler, faster, better in Mid-Year Budget Review

Townsville City Council today handed down the 2018/19 Mid-Year Budget Review at the Full Council meeting.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the review shows Council is continuing to deliver on our promises for benefit of the community.

“Council is investing heavily in improving infrastructure, delivering water security, and creating jobs for locals,” Cr Hill said.

Governance and Finance Committee Chair Cr Verena Coombe said strong financial management has resulted in an underlying surplus of $0.6 million.

“Council has committed to spending nearly $400 million on infrastructure – this is a 79% increase on the previous year’s investment,” Cr Coombe said.

“The slight difference between the budget and our mid-year review is due to timing issues related to major projects and we will still be delivering all these projects we committed to in June.”

“These results demonstrate the benefits of the simpler, faster, better approach of Council.”
