Ex-Tropical Cyclone Owen brings welcome rain to Townsville

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has moved to Stand Down after ex-Tropical Cyclone Owen passed the city.

TLDMG Deputy Chair Cr Kurt Rehbein said Townsville residents prepared well and listened to expert advice during the wet weather.

“Townsville received over 100mm of rain from ex-Tropical Cyclone Owen and there were no reports of major damage – which is a fantastic outcome,” Cr Rehbein said.

“It’s great that Townsville had some good rain falls over the weekend and it’s a reminder that we often get heavy rain during a regular wet season.

“The overwhelming majority of people did the right thing and listened to expert advice to stay safe.

“If there are any major weather events in the future, Council will notify the community and we’d ask everyone to continue to be prepared and take appropriate precautions.”
