Townsville City Council’s CBD Utilities Upgrade has reached another milestone – with the project recently providing its 300th job for the community.

The project has delivered $39 million of new infrastructure and created more than 300 jobs since it started in 2016.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the project is bringing a big economic boost to our city.

“These upgrades have employed more than 300 workers which is great for our local economy,” Cr Hill said.

“96% of the work has been given to locals and ensures the city has a prosperous future.”

Council has invested $39 million to date in improving water and waste water infrastructure for the future development of our city.

“This is a vital infrastructure upgrade for attracting further investment to Townsville,” Cr Hill said.

Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney thanked residents for their patience as changed traffic conditions in place throughout the city.

“We acknowledge that road closures and detours can be inconvenient but the work needs to be done and is progressing very quickly,” Cr Greaney said.

The CBD Utilities Upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of the 2018/19 financial year.
