New tourist park for Balgal Beach on the horizon

Date published: 15 October 2020

Balgal Beach’s reputation as one of Townsville’s most popular camping and RV destinations is about to be bolstered with Townsville City Council’s planning and development committee yesterday recommending an application for a new tourist park be approved.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the application, submitted for land at the Mystic Sands Golf Course in Balgal Beach, aligned with Council’s RV Strategy.

“Camping and RV tourism is a rapidly growing industry and it’s good to see development applications that will cater to that growth in Townsville,” Cr Hill said.

“Council’s recently finalised RV Strategy demonstrated that there is demand for new campgrounds and this proposal will provide 30 extra sites in the region.

“The Mystic Sands Golf Course is a great asset for the Balgal Beach community and the addition of the tourist park will continue to support its growth.

“This is especially useful at a time when domestic tourism is being encouraged and Australian’s are looking to explore their own backyards.”

The application will go to Full Council for consideration on 27 October.
