Reminding residents to dig deep for the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal

Date published: 5 December 2022

With Christmas right around the corner Townsville City Council is calling on local businesses and residents to dig deep and donate to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal this year.

Currently in its 28th year, the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal assists Townsville families and individuals in need over the Christmas Period, providing support to around 5000 people.

This year’s Christmas Appeal will again focus on donations of money so approved community organisations can purchase essential food vouchers and distribute them directly to people.

While the Christmas Appeal is off to a solid start Mayor Jenny Hill is calling for even more support in the final weeks leading into Christmas.

“The festive season is about bringing everybody together and by donating what you can we will ensure families doing it tough can find some joy this Christmas,” Cr Hill said.

“We don’t want anybody to be left behind during what is a challenging time of year for some so it’s on us as a community to dig deep and donate to help those in need.”

All donations will be used to purchase Christmas vouchers for Townsville families and individuals in need, which will be distributed by several community organisations.

Council is also seeking the support of the local business sector to assist and increase fundraising efforts by sharing information about the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal with their customers.
