Mayor’s Christmas Appeal calls on Townsville to make a positive difference

Townsville City Council is calling on local businesses and residents to dig deep and donate to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal to help support the less fortunate this festive season.

The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal has been assisting Townsville families and individuals in need over the Christmas Period for 28 years and each year it helps about 5000 people.

Mayor Jenny Hill said this year’s Christmas Appeal will again focus on donations of money so approved community organisations can purchase essential food vouchers and distribute them directly to the people.

“It is always important to look after our community and make sure that nobody is left behind at what can be a challenging time of year for some,” Cr Hill Said.

“We are asking our community to think of other residents in the city who are doing it tough and dig deep and donate to help make their Christmas time a little brighter.

“The festive season is a time to bring everybody together and to highlight our collective strength and resilience as a community.

“Your donations will be used to purchase Christmas vouchers for Townsville families and individuals in need. These vouchers will be distributed by our community organisations.”

Council is also seeking the support of the local business sector to assist and increase fundraising efforts by sharing information about the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal with their customers.
