A statement regarding Townsville Deputy Mayor position

Date published: 10 December 2025

Following today’s ordinary Council meeting, Division Three Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney officially stood down from her role as Deputy Mayor of Townsville, effective immediately.

Mayor Nick Dametto thanked his fellow councillor for her time in the role over the last 12 months, serving as Acting Mayor of Townsville during what he described as a tumultuous time in local government.

“I commend Councillor Greaney on her dedication to the role and service to the people of Townsville during her time as Deputy and Acting Mayor, taking on a leadership position when Townsville needed it most was commendable.”

With the Deputy Mayor position now vacant, a Special Council Meeting will be held this Friday at 1:30pm, where councillors will vote to appoint a new Deputy Mayor.
