The pitter patter of little feet will fill Riverway next month, with Townsville City Council gearing up to host its next Welcoming Babies Ceremony.

Registrations for the ever-popular event have opened today, and families are encouraged to get in quickly with demand for the ceremony traditionally high.

The Saturday 16 May, event will be held outside in the autumn sunshine, taking place at Raintree Grove at Riverway with 9am, 10:30am and 12pm sessions available.

Mayor Nick Dametto said he was looking forward to officiating his very first ceremony and meeting some of Townsville’s youngest residents.

“The Welcoming Babies event has been very popular across Townsville for at least the last two decades,” Cr Dametto said.

“It’s a tradition I know many new parents look forward to and a way to officially introduce and welcome our littlest residents to the city of Townsville, as well as celebrate our new and growing local families.

“We know registrations fill up very quickly – often within just one week – so don’t delay if you want your little one’s name on the list.”

The Welcoming Babies Ceremony is held twice a year and is designed to foster deeper family and community connections.

Each attending family will receive a personalised certificate, a native plant, and a gift bag filled with practical baby goodies.
