Go green and give back at free Tree Day event

Branch out and plant new community roots at this Sunday’s Mount Louisa National Tree Day event.

This free event is a chance to get your hands dirty while giving back to the earth by planting some of the 700trees at the Mount Louisa bush walking track.

Divisional councillor Kurt Rehbein said this was a stellar day out for the whole family to enjoy.

“There’s nothing quite like bringing the family together for a wholesome activity like this one. National Tree Day is all about giving back to Mother Nature and connecting with your community, so heading along to our event on Sunday is a win-win,” Cr Rehbein said.

“All you need to bring on the day are closed-in shoes, sun-safe clothing and water bottle – we’ll provide the rest. We’ll also have refreshments on site and a native plant giveaway.

“To get involved, head down to the gazebo at the start of the walking track at 9am to register with our team before heading along to the planting area.”

Mayor Nick Dametto said it was great to see Council’s very own nursery providing the trees for this event.

“The native trees that will be used on Sunday are grown at Council’s Ken Armitage Dry Tropics Nursery, which grows and supplies a large number of trees and plants for public gardens across the city,” Cr Dametto said.

“Well done to the team at the nursery for growing the 700trees that will be used this National Tree Day.”

The Mount Louisa National Tree Day event will run from 9am to 11am this Sunday at the Mount Louisa walking track. For more information, head to Council’s What’s On Townsville website.
