Street Party to kick off World Game celebrations

With tickets almost sold out for the highly anticipated Australia vs Brazil international football clash this month, Townsville City Council is set to get the party started by hosting an Australia vs Brazil Street Party in the heart of the city.
Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said the free community event would transform Flinders Street into a vibrant football festival ahead of the historic match.
“The announcement that the CommBank Socceroos and Brazil are coming to Townsville as part of the Queensland Football Series has created a real buzz across the region,” Cr Dametto said.
“This is a chance for our community to come together and be part of one of the biggest sporting events ever hosted in North Queensland.
“Townsville loves getting behind our Aussie sporting heroes and with football powerhouse Brazil making its first-ever appearance in our city, we want as many people as possible to be part of the celebrations.
“On match day, Flinders Street will come alive with great food, family-friendly activities, market stalls, local entertainment and plenty of football fever before kick-off.
“We're proud to be the events capital of the north, and we're getting behind Australia vs Brazil to ensure it's an occasion locals and visitors will remember for years to come.”
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the Street Party would help maximise the benefits of the Crisafulli Government securing one of the biggest sporting spectacles ever brought to North Queensland.
“The Crisafulli Government is backing major events because they attract visitors, support local jobs and deliver real economic benefits for Queensland communities,” Minister Powell said.
“The Socceroos v Brazil match will shine a global spotlight on Townsville and showcase North Queensland to audiences across Australia and around the world.
“We've worked hard to bring this match to Queensland, and now we're making sure Townsville and North Queensland get every possible benefit from it, with more visitors, more spending and more support for local jobs.”
Kicking off from 3pm Friday September 25, the free Australia vs Brazil Street Party on Flinders Street will feature live entertainment, food vendors, street bars, market stalls and activities for all ages.
With Queensland Country Bank Stadium nearing capacity, only limited tickets remain available, including junior tickets from $29 and adult tickets from $89.
