Dan Gleeson Memorial Gardens
General Information
Dan Gleeson Memorial Gardens, while not run as a botanic garden, is a pleasure garden maintained to the same high standards and featuring beautiful locations for special events. Originally conceived as a Bicentennial project, Dan Gleeson Gardens is set on about 5 hectares. The gardens are composed of a wide range of native and exotic trees, shrubs and palms, which are situated amongst large lawn areas and paved pathways.
The gardens have a range of facilities including:
- fenced playground area with shade-sail
- electric barbecues
- picnic tables
- Sound Shell Community Centre
- seating throughout the gardens
- a large wooden gazebo.
Since 2015, there has been a Breast Cancer Awareness Garden within Dan Gleeson Memorial Gardens, with inspirational signs, pink flowers and a pink rotunda.
The playground area at the edge of the gardens is themed as a castle, with sword and shield mosaics, a sea monster, and a drawbridge.
Next to the playground is the small Sound Shell Community Centre, perfect for intimate open air, amateur productions, dance recitals, small concerts and meetings. The stage adjoining the building sits on a lawn which makes it perfect for your audience to bring along a picnic chair or blanket so they can settle in and let you entertain them.
