Vision
Councillor Dametto’s 20-year vision is about creating a connected city that has pride in its local government services, while ensuring all stakeholders are working collaboratively for the betterment of the city. The former State MP is passionate about the region’s untapped potential and believes in the power of opening Townsville for business when it comes to industry, tourism and events, future planning and development and economic opportunities – cementing the region as the economic powerhouse of northern Australia.
Background
Councillor Nick Dametto was born and raised in Ingham, where he completed his education at Gilroy Santa Maria College. Growing up on his family’s cane farm, Cr Dametto developed a strong work ethic and gained real-world experience from an early age.
He proudly served the Hinchinbrook electorate as a Member of Parliament for eight years. Prior to his time in Parliament, Cr Dametto built a diverse career across the mining, construction, and tourism industries and is a qualified Fitter and Boilermaker.
Known for his strong leadership, dedication and commitment to the community, Cr Dametto is focused on delivering results through a back-to-basics approach. Whether you live on Magnetic Island, in the inner city, or in Townsville’s rural suburbs, he believes every resident matters.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Cr Dametto enjoys spending time with family and friends, boating, and embracing Townsville’s relaxed tropical lifestyle. He is a passionate supporter of local sporting teams and can often be found cheering on the Townsville Fire and North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.
