Annandale road works on schedule

A major upgrade of William Angliss Drive and MacArthur Drive in Annandale is on schedule for completion.

The upgrade to improve traffic flows along the suburb’s key arterial routes began in December, with the first section completed ahead of this week’s return to school.

Infrastructure Committee chair Cr Trevor Roberts said council was working with Townsville Grammar Junior School and Queensland Police Service to ensure smooth transitions during peak times in the mornings and afternoons.

“We’ve scheduled these works during the school holidays to minimise disruption in the area and the first phase has been completed on time,” Cr Roberts said.

“The new roundabout at the intersection of Brazier Drive and William Angliss Drive is now operational, and the new signalled intersection at William Angliss Drive and MacArthur Drive is on track for completion towards the end of February.

“We’ve engaged the police to assist us this week during periods of heavy traffic and we will also have traffic controllers in place.

“There is also signage to direct parents to the new drop-off zones.

“We ask drivers to be patient during the last phase of the works, which will take a few more weeks to complete.”

The $4.2m project has included a realignment of Brazier Drive through a section of Roslyn Park and will see an upgrade to the park including shaded areas and barbecues.
