Community groups to learn effective online marketing techniques

Date published: 30 May 2016

Community groups will welcome online presence guru Brett de Hoedt to Townsville in June as a part of the Community Groups Built to Last program.

#embracethespace participants will be given tips on how to build a sustainable, effective and efficient future for their organisation through a free program of seminars and workshops, to be held June 9.

Townsville City Council welcomes the founder of Hootville, Brett de Hoedt, to present The Internet: Not just a phase we’re going through session at the Riverway Performing Arts Centre.

Mr De Hoedt, who worked as a print journalist, radio host and publicist, is well versed in teaching local community and not-for-profit organisations how to use the possibilities of the web to market and campaign.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the program aimed to empower local groups to manage their content and show them how to market themselves.

“Our community groups experience the same complexity and demand as all other entities competing for market share in today’s fast paced, competitive society,” Cr Doyle said.

“This is about giving them the tools they need to be independent, sustainable and successful in the new technological world.”

The Community Groups Built to Last program was initiated by Townsville City Council following a successful one-day conference last year, the program aims to provide information, skills and tools in areas including grant writing, partnership building, succession planning and digital marketing skills.

Registrations close June 2 and places are limited.
