Local street artists offered free space to create and express

Street artists will now have a permanent space to practice their skills and showcase their work with the opening of the Murray Skate Park Outdoor Free Wall.

The wall is the city’s first free use, community street art space and part of Townsville City Council’s Street Art Activation Framework.

Council’s Street Art Activation Working Group member Cr Russ Cook said similar initiatives had been successful in many metropolitan and regional centres around the country.

“This is a permanent space for local street artists to create and express themselves and will be regularly buffed to provide a clean canvas,” Cr Cook said.

“As this is a free space, artists can paint here at any time, so there’s no guarantee the work will remain intact, therefore we encourage artists to photograph their work and share it with the world using the hashtag #murrayskateparkart.”

The wall will be used for the first time this evening by the Youth Network NQ with the delivery of their regular Youth Outreach Program.

Artists are asked to create artwork on the wall only, and to dispose of used aerosol cans according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
