Track closures at summit of Castle Hill

Two popular Castle Hill walking tracks will be upgraded from this week.
The Townsville City Council project includes upgrading the Summit walk and Pill Box walk – adjacent to the Castle Hill Summit Carpark – to install new handrails to improve safety for pedestrians.
The tracks will be closed while the project is completed and are expected to reopen at the end of June.
The contract has been awarded to Naturform Pty Ltd and will create eight local jobs throughout the project duration.
Division 3 Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the project will improve pedestrian safety for locals and visitors to the region.
“Castle Hill is no doubt Townsville’s most iconic feature – with thousands of users every day it is imperative that we keep these extremely busy tracks up to date in order to provide safe conditions for all users,” Cr Greaney said
“I urge pedestrians to be aware of the works and to follow the signage.”
Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said Council is committed to providing new and upgraded infrastructure for Townsville’s recreational facilities and open spaces.
“Townsville City Council has identified the need to upgrade and replace the handrails on these two tracks, this will increase safety and accessibility for the thousands of people who visit Castle Hill daily,” Cr Molachino said.
Both the Castle Hill Summit carpark and the Radar Hill walk will remain open and accessible throughout the duration of the works.
