Townsville Dashboards has taken out top honours in the People and Community category of the 2020 Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (Queensland).
Townsville Dashboards was created to make it easier for the community to find high quality, current data and information about Townsville.
The People and Community category recognises spatial projects and initiatives that make a difference to their local community and are able to be widely accessed.
Community and Cultural Development Deputy Committee chairperson Liam Mooney said Townsville Dashboards is the key pillar of Council’s Open Data programme.
“Council launched Townsville Dashboards in 2019, and since then the dashboard has amassed over 200,000 views and over 20,000 asset downloads by members of our community,” Cr Mooney said.
“Council created the dashboards as a way to share information with our community and to build trust through transparency and accountability. We currently have more than 60 datasets available for downloading and viewing.
“Winning this award demonstrates how valuable having public facing data is, and Council will continue to update and improve this platform for our residents.”
The judges for the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards commended the Dashboards project as an excellent example of local government being proactive, open, and learning the strengths of other organisations and individuals to contribute towards the aims of Council on behalf of the community.
Townsville Dashboards has progressed to the National Awards which will be announced at the end of March.
