TCC fixes potholes, mows grass during weather reprieve

Commuters can give Townsville City Council a helping hand by reporting potholes amidst ongoing wet weather across the region.
Council’s teams have been hard at work repairing potholes caused by heavy downpours since rain set in on Christmas Day.
Mayor Nick Dametto said Council was proactively working on roads that had been identified as being prone to potholes.
“Council filled more than 5000 potholes in 2025, which is a mammoth effort, however the recent rain has meant that many new potholes are appearing,” Cr Dametto said.
“Unfortunately there are roads across Townsville that are more susceptible to potholes than others, so our teams have been out and about patching them up as efficiently as possible.
“Areas like Sturt Street, North Shore Boulevard and Alligator Creek Road have been addressed this week, but if there’s a pothole on your street or on a tucked-away road during your commute please take the time to report it to Council so we can get a team out to fix it.
“To report a pothole you can jump onto the Snap Send Solve app, use Council’s website or call our team on 13 48 10.”
Council teams are also mowing as quickly as possible during the short break in the wet weather.
“There’s nothing grass loves more than hot and wet conditions, so we are seeing plenty of grass growth across the city. Our maintenance teams are hard at work mowing our parks and open spaces, and I’m asking everyone to please be patient as some parks and fields are still too wet to put heavy mowers and slashers on,” Cr Dametto said.
“In the past year Council crews have mowed 14 million square metres of grass, which is the equivalent of about 11,000 Olympic swimming pools, so rest assured that our maintenance teams will be at your local park or sports field as soon as possible.”
