Council endorses updated Corporate Plan under new leadership

Townsville City Council has unanimously adopted its revised Corporate Plan 2025–2029 at today’s Ordinary Council meeting, setting a clear strategic direction for the city’s future growth.
Mayor Nick Dametto said the updated plan outlined more targeted outcomes that support Council’s purpose to grow Townsville, while reinforcing a vision for the city as a globally connected community driven by lifestyle and nature.
“Council originally adopted the Corporate Plan early last year, during a period of significant uncertainty,” Cr Dametto said.
“With steady leadership now at the helm, we’ve come together as a Council to chart a clear path forward and refine how we deliver on our purpose.”
The Corporate Plan builds on community input gathered during development of the original draft, including feedback from more than 3,800 residents through the Liveability Survey.
While retaining its four core goals: a city for everyone, a sustainable and resilient city, a future-ready city, and a well-managed city, the revised plan streamlines 19 outcomes into 12 clearer, more focused priorities.
“We have refined the original objectives to better reflect the organisation’s direction which strengthens our ability to track progress and deliver for the community,” Cr Dametto said.
“As Mayor, my goal is to lead a council committed to good governance and responsible financial management, focused on building trust and confidence among our residents and ratepayers.
“This sharper focus ensures we are well positioned to respond in a changing environment while maintaining strong service delivery.”
The plan also highlights the importance of partnerships across industry and government to support regional growth, create sustainable jobs and deliver Townsville’s long-term vision.
Cr Dametto said the adoption of the revised Corporate Plan comes at a critical time as Council progresses development of its 2026/27 Budget and Operational Plan.
“Our corporate plan is ambitious, but as the capital of Northern Australia we believe we’d be doing our city and our community an injustice in setting our sights on achieving anything less,” he said.
“A strong Corporate Plan provides our overarching strategic framework and directly informs the priorities, investments and service delivery outlined in our annual Budget and Operational Plan.
“With work already underway on the 2026/27 Budget, this plan will help guide our investment priorities to deliver meaningful outcomes for the Townsville community.”
