Budget - Bus stop upgrades highlights of transport, road safety budget

Bus stops and pathways will continue to be upgraded as part of a transportation and road safety focus in the City Budget 2016/17.

A total of $1.38 million has been allocated for improvements to bus stops at various locations across the city including South Townsville, Railway Estate, Kirwan, West End, Heatley, North Ward, Idalia and Hermit Park.

The council’s on-going improvements for pedestrians will also continue.

Budget funding includes $515,000 for Stage 2 of the Marina Drive footpath at Bushland Beach to complete a connection through to Pacific Avenue.

A further $684,000 in footpath upgrades will be carried out in Douglas, Railway Estate, Bushland Beach, and Aitkenvale.

Road safety will also be a priority.

The budget includes $472,000 in Black Spot funding to improve roundabout safety at Bamford Lane / Mill Drive intersection, Kern Brothers Drive / Bel Air Avenue intersection and Fulham Road / Cambridge Street intersection.

Other highlights include $180,000 for the renewal of traffic signals at various locations across the city, $255,000 for the replacement of guide posts, delineators, and road signs and $180,000 for Mt Stuart Road Bridge deck replacement and minor structural works.
