New bin collection schedule to improve efficiency

Townsville City Council’s Water and Waste Committee has today recommended revising the regular bin collection schedule.
It’s expected the new bin collection schedule would improve efficiency and lower the running costs of the service.
Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said the changes would impact a minimal number of residents but improve the way the service runs.
“As part of the upcoming State Waste Levy changes, Council has been looking at ways we can minimise our waste footprint and provide a more efficient service,” Cr Cook said.
“We will be working closely with residents that will be impacted to ensure they know exactly what this means for them and what their new schedule will be.”
The impact is expected to be minimal – only 6% of residents will have a change to their current schedule – with some households in Townsville City, Toolakea, Bluewater Park, Kirwan and Magnetic Island potentially affected.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said these reforms would help Council become simpler, faster and better.
“Council has been committed to improving how our services run and offering ratepayers the best value for their money,” Cr Hill said.
“These changes to the bin collection schedule will place less strain on Council resources and allow us to redirect that to other areas.”
The report will go to Full Council for a decision on 28 May.
