Date published: 18 July 2025

Council’s achievements during the final quarter of the 2024/25 financial year have been noted in the Full Year Report at this week’s Ordinary Meeting.

Council Chief Executive Officer Joe McCabe said the report highlighted the steps the organisation had taken to put Townsville in good stead for the 2025/26 financial year.

“Council has been hard at work planning for the city’s future through the delivery of our 2025/26 Budget and Operational Plan. Through careful planning, Council is expected to return to surplus earlier than forecasted while continuing to invest in essential services and organisational efficiencies,” Mr McCabe said.

“This forecast is thanks to months of behind-the-scenes work and collaborations between Council staff and councillors and will help us grow Townsville as a globally connected city in the 2025/26 financial year.”

Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the report reflected Council’s commitment to delivering a wide range of services and events for the people of Townsville.

“Highlights from the past three months include Our Townsville, the opening of recreational land-based fishing at Ross River Dam, stage one of the Rockpool redevelopment’s community consultation and the delivery of our new solar-powered mobile library van,” Cr Greaney said.

“Each of these items have been driven in consultation with our community to understand how we can make Townsville the best place to live, play and work.

“Councillors will continue to work with Council staff and with our community to drive growth and lifestyle across Townsville in the year to come.”

In the 2024/25 financial year Council achieved:

  • 966 development applications decided
  • 1,182 animals adopted
