Kirwan kids in line for brand new Belmont Park playground

The rumble of machinery and the hum of construction will soon arrive at Kirwan’s Belmont Park, signalling the delivery of a brand-new playground for the busy suburb.
Townsville City Council has committed up to $300,000 to the project, which will see new play equipment, rubber soft fall and concrete edging installed.
Divisional councillor Vera Dirou said she was keen to see the works get underway, and that the new playground was designed to improve the park’s fun and functional offerings.
“This is a busy part of Kirwan, and I know many families in the nearby area will be very pleased to see their local park get a long-awaited makeover through the delivery of this brand new playground,” Cr Dirou said.
“The old wooden playground has served us well, and now it’s time for a refresh.
“The inclusion of softfall as part of these works is awesome as we all know how much the kids love to explore, burn off energy and test their limits at these kinds of facilities.
“The softfall is an added layer of protection to help limit the risk of bumps and bruises as the little ones enjoy themselves, which I know all parents will appreciate.”
Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said he was excited Kirwan was the next cab off the rank for a brand-new, Council-funded playground.
“Townsville’s parks and playgrounds are outdoor spaces for kids and families to enjoy and take pride in – they are a big part of what makes our city such a great place to live,” Cr Dametto said.
“Council has a broad scope of works planned across all of our city’s green spaces, and I am keen to see these continue rolling out throughout the year.”
The Belmont Park Playground Renewal project will kick off on Thursday, April 30, and take around three months to complete.
