The Ecosophy Garden
About the Ecosophy Garden Project
Townsville City Council currently has three Ecosophy Gardens. The first Ecosophy Garden, located at the corner of Walker Street and Sturt Street, was launched in two different stages. The first stage was launched in May 2022 and the second in May 2023. The second garden is located at Lou Litster Park, Hermit Park which was launched in June 2024. The third addition, launched in May 2025, is located at Perfume Gardens, Townsville City.
Each garden was created to reinvigorate and beautify a prominent city garden bed while also showcasing a pollinator-supportive garden that has:
- Flowers, herbs and low-growing native shrubs
- A food and nest environment for bees and pollinators
- Native non-sting bees.
The revamped garden beds are a living, breathing, small-scale ecosystem for plants, which attracts bees, ladybugs, worms, snails and microbes.
The secret recipe to the healthy soil is lots of healthy herbs, flowers, vegetables, shrubs (including natives); healthy nutrient-rich soil; and large measures of community partnerships based on trust, care, love, and fun.
