Victoria Bridge, Townsville City

Council is undertaking maintenance works on the walking surface of Victoria Bridge between Ogden Street and Dean Street, Townsville City.

This initiative forms part of Council’s annual Infrastructure Maintenance Program, which ensures essential assets remain safe, functional, and capable of supporting the region’s growing connectivity needs.

As part of the works, Council will:

• temporarily close both access ramps and implement a detour for those unable to use the stairs
• overlay deteriorated walking surface with new, fit-for-purpose non-slip materials
• conduct substructure repairs as required.

If you live near, or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

• temporary fencing on the bridge
• higher levels of dust, noise, and vibrations
• temporary closure of bridge access ramps from 16 to 24 March 2026, with a detour in place.

The bridge will remain open for the duration of the project, with no impact to access via the stairs at either end.
